My name is Beth Lee, and I have been practicing psychotherapy since 2009 and have had a private practice since 2012. From 2009 to 2012, I completed a three-year post-graduate program in relational therapy at the prestigious Ackerman Institute for the family. I worked as a family therapist in foster care for two years. My qualifications include being a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and certification in three trauma therapies: Somatic Experiencing (SE), Integral Somatic Psychology (ISP), and EMDR. I also assist in training for SE and ISP.
My approach to therapy is integrative and collaborative; I see my role as a therapist to support, guide, and help clients develop skills to heal old wounds, understand themselves better, and live their lives to their fullest potential. In social work school, I began training in psychodynamic therapy before training as a family therapist at the Ackerman Institute for the Family. After practicing for multiple years, I became interested in learning about treating trauma because of how many of my clients experienced trauma in their lives. After experiencing EMDR myself and finding it very helpful, I got certified as an EMDR practitioner. I then learned about a body-based therapy (SE) that allows one to resolve trauma held within the body by helping it complete incomplete responses. From 2014-2017, I completed a 3 year training program in SE and became an SE Practitioner (SEP). I am also trained in Integral Somatic Psychology (ISP), a modality that focuses on emotional embodiment and expands on the work of SE by helping clients to fully embody their emotions and expand their tolerance of difficult emotions and increase their resilience which helps metabolize trauma and old wounds. I weave these two approaches into all my work with clients, whether I am engaged in individual, couples, or family therapy.
